Blessed with 300 sunny days in a year and receiving an average hourly radiation of 200 MW/sq km, India is well placed to overcome its key challenges by harnessing the enormous solar potential. Around 12.5% of India’s land mass, or 413,000 sq km, could be used for harnessing solar energy. Recognizing this, the Government of India (GoI) included solar energy as a key mission under the National Action Plan on Climate Change and formally launched the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) in 2010. Mission aims at setting up 20,000 MW grid-connected solar power capacity by 2020.

Gujarat and Rajasthan currently host a majority of the solar power capacity operational in India. The two states have about 88% of the total operational capacity. While Gujarat has an operational capacity of just over 824 MW, Rajasthan has a capacity of about 513 MW.

With less than 10% of the capacity addition in 3 years, the task of adding additional 18,000 MW or more during the next 10 years is a gigantic task for the Government.

HDM has taken note of this development since the announcement of the solar mission. It has studied the falling prices of solar panels worldwide and also the bidding process that have witnessed decreasing tariffs for solar energy, the day is not far when solar energy will become competitive with other forms of renewable energy.

HDM has established a 25 MW solar project development company focusing on the state of Rajasthan. The State of Rajasthan receives maximum solar radiation intensity in India with verylow average rainfall. It also has unutilized desert land available for solar power development.

The Solar company has acquired the land required for building the 25 MW solar project in the state of Rajasthan in Jaisalmer district. The project is located about 40 kms before Jaisalmer on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer highway. The project has a good connectivity to an existing 132/33 KV substation about 6 kms from the project site. There are no power evacuation related constraints. The company is in discussions with prospective investors to join hands in achieving a bankable PPA with 3rd parties or bid for tariff in the coming phase II of JNNSM bidding process.

HDM also offers M&A services for investors to acquire solar projects both greenfield and operating.
